Freegesturay is a gesture controlled vehicle payment system. It is designed to improve user experience while driving by defining and providing a set of controlling gestures.
Automobile interior controlling is greatly diversified nowadays . Typical controlling modes include button-based control, touch-screen control, voice control, gesture control and so on. These new modes have simplified traditional vehicle control and created bran-new user experience. Among all these controlling modes, gesture control, which is highly efficient and easy for memorizing has gained great attention. Therefore, many applications and devices based on gesture have been developed. Common application field of gesture in vehicle control include navigation, social network and so on.
FREEGESTURAY makes use of gesture control and RFID tag to complete
payment of driving
To determine gestures corresponding to specific controlling of FREEGESTURAY, 3-D gestures have been collected from real situation and theses for this project. After that, user participatory test has been conducted based on collected gestures in order to pick out the most suitable gestures for FREEGESTURAY.

I have checked papers concerned with gestures and gesture metaphors. Then, gestures might be applied to driving environment have been picked out as follow.
I selected several gestures from papers and researches above for four basic commands respectively. Those selected gestures will be used for participatory design later on.
Ⅰ 1. Identify a function and let users figure out their favorite gesture to implement this function. And then, draw this gesture on paper.
Ⅱ 1.Provide testees with several possible gestures for function mentioned above and let them imitate those gestures.
2. Ask users for other gestures that may possibly fit in with this function.
Ⅲ 1. List out all gestures including original gestures and those suggested by testees and let testees rank them according to their fitness with the function.
2. Ask testees for advantages and disadvantages of those gestures and record them.
Ⅳ 1. List gestures of all functions on the wall. 2. Testees are allowed to adjust gestures rank.
From the user participatory design process, eight elements have been summarized as selective standard for interactive gestures.
According to real conditions, final gestures adaptable for demo development have been selected and listed below.
1. Nissan Altima. First generation HUD.
2. Audi. Night vision.
3. BMW. 3-D images. Two HUD screens.
4. Peugeot. Liftable Screen.
5. Cadillac. Full-color display.
6. Nexus. Single color.
To reduce the transfer of visual center and ensure driving comfort, Head-Up Display has been used as the information display pattern for FREEGESTURAY. Vehicle models which are equipped with HUD have been researched for their respective features of interface design.
In order to know about the data volume displayed on vehicle-based HUD screen, I have concluded vehicles with HUD screen including BMW, Audi, Peugeot, Nissan, Cadillac and Nexus. The graph on the left shows the HUD data volume for each vehicle model.
Result of research shows that data volume of character on each HUD interface is 1.82; the data volume of icon is 1.32. These data is helpful for interface design later on.
